What the heck is wrong with the insurance company's?
There is a little girl who has downs Syndrome who is being denied a life saving treatment because the insurance company considers it to be a maintainis drug not a life saving treatment. It is IVIG. Yes it is expensive but at what price is a human life not important? It makes me sick. This family is sitting by watching their daughter suffer and get worst because she needs this treatment. This young girl has HE (Hashimoto's Encephalopathy) some call it AE Autoimmune Encephalopathy. But what ever the label you put on it, she needs treatments.I do not believe an insurance company should be allowed to make this kind of decision, I believe if the doctor says the patient needs a treatment why does it have to be ok by the insurance company? This makes me want to cry for the family. People trying to get plasma exchange have the same sort of problems as we have a couple ladies from our HE facebook page that went through this too with the hospital they were being treated at, insurance said ok, but the board of the hospital said no, yet they needed this treatment again for HE.
As I enter my fourth year with a dx of HE I have become more aware of the uneducated medical world and insurance company's when it comes to this disease. If one finally gets a dx of HE and it usually takes quite a while for this, then they have to fight for the treatments that will help them. What a crime. Or they hit a brick wall with other doctors not believing the diagnosis. These patients are at risk of permanent brain damage as the doctors, insurance company's, screw around with the patients life's.
I only hope and pray our little friend gets her treatment and the insurance company does not play around with her life much longer.
